THOR subwoofers for ORION
The maximum sound output from the open-baffle woofer of
the ORION is cone excursion limited at
the lowest bass frequencies. In some applications,
like for Home Theater sound effects or for highly realistic volume levels of
certain types of music, increased output capability may be desired. The addition
of two THOR subwoofers will serve those needs. A
complete THOR/ORION subwoofer system consists of:
- Two cabinets with 12" drivers and binding posts
- Two 20 foot cables with banana plugs to connect the
subwoofers to the AT6012 power amplifier
- A 180 W per channel stereo power amplifier in case the
four unused amplifiers of the AT6012 are not available
- Two pair of 6 foot RCA cables to connect the THOR/ORION
crossover/equalizer outputs to the power amplifier
- A 1.5 foot cable to connect the THOR/ORION xo/eq output
to the ORION xo/eq input
- A THOR/ORION crossover/equalizer. It is connected to
the preamplifier output instead of the ORION xo/eq.
- A DIN/Midi cable to provide +/-12 V from the
ORION xo/eq to the THOR/ORION xo/eq

| The THOR cabinets may be
supplied in different wood types and finishes to match the ORION.
The cabinet can be built with a grill to cover the
drivers or with 3" feet to stand the cabinet upright and have the
drivers face the floor. The cabinet size is 14" x 14" x 22"
without 3" feet. |

The THOR/ORION crossover/equalizer
comes with a clear polycarbonate cover for easy subwoofer level adjustment
and subwoofer IN/OUT switching. It takes its power via a supplied DIN
cable from the ORION xo/eq.

The AT1802
is a 180 W per channel stereo power amplifier. If you own the 12-channel AT6012
power amplifier for driving ORION, then its 4 unused amplifier sections can be
driven from the THOR/ORION xo/eq in bridged mode to provide power to left and right
THOR subwoofers. No additional power
amplifiers are needed.
